Nothing but a boring update!

Originally written: Monday, August 22, 2011

It has been quite some time since I have been able (or should I say since I have made the time) to write. Make no mistake about it, there have been many times I wanted to write but I have found that life goes by so quickly. I feel as if my blog is just average and lacking at best these days so why bore people with another random update. There are certain topics I would like to touch upon. Each should be it own separate entry, but as so much time has lapsed, I always feel compelled to give an update of events since the last time I wrote.

Perhaps I will give a hodge podge of an update here and then start on separate entries each containing their own topic which would probably be more interesting to follow. Of course while that is my intent now, time may have other intentions. I felt the need to go for a very long walk and clear my head today and there is a lot on my mind as of late. It is after 8pm now so to foolishly think I will whip out three separate blog entries in one evening is a bit optimistic on my part, but here goes……

Two entries ago I wrote about a possible imposture, James A. Perry to be precise, above my father. Well I have to formally apologize to Mr. Perry. It appears that the cemetery made a mistake on the paperwork my mother has and he is where he belongs. My mother did buy several crypts around my father so that the entire family could be together, but his was apparently not one of them.

In my last blog entry I told you that my fiancée wanted to cancel our wedding so that family could be there. I am all about family being there as that was my original plan. We decided that it was impossible to make everyone happy and in the event that we ever decided to have children, it would be better to not have to wait as we are already older than ideally we would want to be starting a family. So after much debate and emotional torture (of my own doing) as I worry about EVERYBODY and EVERYTHING, we decided a small ceremony on the beach in St. Lucia would be the best option followed by a reception of sorts when we got home with the family. Then second guessing set in on his part and my last blog entry was born.

I gave him a week to decide and while it is now almost a two months later, he did give me a decision and that was to stick to the original plan and for us to get married on the beach this October. Towards the end of July I bought a wedding band and two weeks ago we went to pick out his. As a matter of fact, we just picked his up from the jeweler yesterday and I received a message today that mine is also ready for pick up.

In a very late development, my mother was trying as hard as possible to make her way to my wedding. I felt awful and I could tell she really wanted to be there for that special event. She was basically asking people she barely knew to accompany her so that she did not have to be a third wheel on our honeymoon but would be able to see her first born walk down the aisle, or the beach in this case. It would be one thing if she did not want to go, but she desperately did and having lost my father last year, it was tearing my heart into pieces as I knew that years from now I would look back and regret that my mother was not there. She had been pushing her friend to get a passport and go with her for what seemed like months but I had a feeling her friend did not want to go or did not have the money to go and was therefore dragging her feet not knowing how to tell my mother.

Long story short, my mom’s renewed interest in finding a way to get to my wedding come hell or high water prompted my fiancée to start questioning his parent’s intent. He would never admit it to me, but I could tell that he was upset that his parents when given amble opportunity to join us on various occasions had repeatedly declined to go. I think finances played a part, although I can not be 100% certain. In the end, he sent them a very short, to the point yet guilt ridden e-mail and three days later they had booked their trip. This then prompted me to call my mom and she put a bit of pressure on her friend to see what the story was.

It turns out that my mom’s friend did not want to go for financial reasons. After a bit of back and fourth, my fiancée and I decided that we would pay part of her trip cost so that my mother had a partner in crime and……. well, so I did not have to babysit my mom on my honeymoon. When her friend still declined, we extended the same offer to my sister, but she too declined. Now I know my sister has the money but is being a tightwad, but that is another story.

So as of right now, I am getting married to the most wonderful man on the beach in St. Lucia in October accompanied by our parents. I am honestly pleased they are coming. I just wish that they were all flying down the same day. As of right now it looks like I will be flying down with my mom and his parents will arrive 2 or maybe 3 days later. I had hoped for some alone time with my husband to be, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case. It kind of sucks in a way that I can’t even begin to tell you but it is what it is. Every vacation he and I have ever taken has involved a family member or family visit of sorts. I was so excited when I found out it was finally just going to be the two of us. Now I have to entertain people which was not exactly what I had envisioned but it is my wedding and my mother will be there so I suppose in the end, that is truly what is most important. Hopefully he and I will have many years to take vacations together ……ALONE.

There are plenty of other things I can certainly update you on that are happening in life and with my family, but I think I will end here and try and get to those other entries I had optimistically hoped to write done.

Until I write again…….
